Am I a candidate for LANAP — and how do I find out?
The only way to know for sure is through a proper evaluation. Dr. Montgomery will assess the health of your gums, bone levels, and any implants during your consultation — and give you an honest answer about whether LANAP or LAPIP is right for your specific case. If you are not a candidate, the $150 consultation fee is waived.
How is LANAP different from traditional gum surgery?
Traditional gum surgery involves cutting away infected tissue with a scalpel and suturing the gums back — which means significant discomfort and a longer recovery. LANAP uses the PerioLase® MVP-7 laser to target only diseased tissue and harmful bacteria, leaving healthy tissue intact. There are no cuts, no stitches, and the procedure has FDA clearance for true periodontal regeneration — meaning it can actually help rebuild bone that has been lost.
What is LAPIP and can it save a failing implant?
LAPIP is the implant-specific version of LANAP. It uses the same PerioLase® MVP-7 laser to treat peri-implantitis — the bacterial infection around a dental implant that causes bone loss and eventual implant failure. If you've been told your implant needs to be removed, LAPIP may be able to treat the infection and save the implant. Dr. Montgomery will evaluate this during your consultation.
